When do October 2026 tickets go on sale?
October 2026 tickets go on sale at 10:00 JST on Thursday 10 September 2026, through Lawson Ticket.
| Where | Local time |
|---|---|
| Tokyo | Thursday 10 September, 10:00 |
| London | Thursday 10 September, 02:00 |
| Paris and Madrid | Thursday 10 September, 03:00 |
| New York | Wednesday 9 September, 21:00 |
| Los Angeles | Wednesday 9 September, 18:00 |
| Taipei and Hong Kong | Thursday 10 September, 09:00 |
| Sydney | Thursday 10 September, 11:00 |
The whole month is released in one go. Be logged in to Lawson Ticket a few minutes early with your dates and entry times written down in order of preference. If a 02:00 alarm on a work night is not going to happen, a booking service like Tickets Japan takes that list and queues at release for you.
Which days is the museum closed in October 2026?
Tuesdays are normally closed. In October 2026 that means 6, 13, 20 and 27 October. No national holiday lands on a Tuesday this month. Any maintenance closure will be on the official calendar, which is the final word.
Which October dates will go first?
The Sports Day weekend, 10 to 12 October, is likely to sell first, starting with the 10:00 entry on each day. Sports Day itself is Monday 12 October, which is what makes it a three-day weekend. Every other Saturday and Sunday follows close behind.
Japanese schools are in term all month. The summer holiday ends in late August and the winter holiday does not begin until about 25 December. A Wednesday or Thursday afternoon in October is therefore about as calm as the museum gets, and those are the slots that stay on sale longest.
If your trip is fixed on the long weekend, put it first on your list and add two weekday afternoons as backups.
What is Mitaka like in October?
October is one of the easiest months to be outdoors in Tokyo. Highs are around 22 °C, it is mostly dry, and the typhoon season that runs through September is behind you. The 15-minute walk from the south exit of Mitaka Station along the Tamagawa Josui waterway is a pleasure rather than a chore.
Inokashira Park is still green. Autumn colour does not arrive until mid-November, so if red maples are the point of your trip, read the November guide instead. What October gives you is clear afternoons on the rooftop garden, where the five-metre Robot Soldier stands and photography is allowed. The roof is reached by a narrow spiral staircase and closes in bad weather.
When do November tickets go on sale?
Tickets for November go on sale at 10:00 JST on Saturday 10 October, the first morning of the Sports Day weekend. If you are trying to line up an October visit with a second date in November, or friends arrive a few weeks after you, you will be at two releases a month apart.
The Saturday release is slightly kinder to people outside Japan. In Europe it is 02:00 or 03:00 on a Saturday rather than a work night. In New York and Los Angeles it is 21:00 or 18:00 on Friday 9 October. And if you are already in Tokyo that morning, you can join the queue from your phone on the way to the museum.
The full release calendar for 2026 and 2027, with local times for every month, is in the release dates guide. Entry times, prices and how our booking works are on the Ghibli Museum page.
