When do Ghibli Museum tickets go on sale?
The museum releases tickets for an entire month at once, at 10:00 JST on the 10th of the month before. Tickets for every day in October 2026 go on sale on 10 September 2026. Tickets for every day in January 2027 go on sale on 10 December 2026. There is no scheduled second release; cancelled tickets can come back on sale.
Sales run through Lawson Ticket, which has an English-language site for overseas buyers. Nothing is sold at the museum.
Japan does not observe daylight saving time, so 10:00 JST is 01:00 UTC all year. Your own local time still moves if your country changes its clocks, which is why London is 01:00 in winter and 02:00 in summer.

What should you have ready before release day?
Have all of this sorted the day before, not five minutes before the sale.
- An account. Register on Lawson Ticket ahead of time and check that you can log in.
- Your dates and entry times, in order. A first choice, then a second and a third. Entry times run every hour from 10:00 to 16:00, and each ticket is fixed to one date and one hour.
- Backups on a weekday. If your first choice is a Saturday, make the fallback a Wednesday or Thursday afternoon. Deciding backup dates in advance is the single biggest factor in getting in.
- A card that clears. Use one you have paid with online before, and warn your bank if it tends to block foreign charges.
- Your headcount. Everyone aged 4 and over needs their own dated ticket. Children aged 3 and under go free.
Which dates sell out first?
Weekends, national holidays and the long weekends they create, and school holidays go first. On any given day the 10:00 entry sells before the later hours. Weekday afternoons in the shoulder months (October, November and the weeks after New Year) stay on sale longest.
Can you still get tickets after release day?
The month is not necessarily gone. People cancel, and cancelled tickets go back on sale on Lawson Ticket. Check at different times of day and be flexible on the entry hour. Weekday afternoons are the most likely to reappear.

What happens when release day falls on a weekend?
Nothing changes when release day falls on a weekend.
Five release days in this calendar fall on a Saturday or Sunday: 10 October 2026, 10 January 2027, 10 April 2027, 10 July 2027 and 10 October 2027. Tickets still go on sale at 10:00 JST on the 10th. For Europe that is the small hours of a weekend morning, and for the Americas a Friday or Saturday evening, which is easier to stay up for than a Tuesday night.
When is the museum closed?
Tuesdays are normally closed and are not on sale; the official calendar decides holiday exceptions. The museum also closes for maintenance periods and has closed over the year-end and New Year holidays in recent years. The official calendar, published roughly a year ahead, is the final word on which dates exist to book.
